Virginia Chichester

From Chill

Lady Virginia Chichester was the first woman to join SAVE, in 1857. Lord Boulton, acting head of SAVE at that time (Charles O'Boylan having died a decade earlier), dismissed her application to join the Society, citing fears that SAVE's activities would be "inappropriate for young women." Lady Chichester's letter in response hung in a frame on the wall of the SAVE World Headquarters for years thereafter (and is, sadly, believed to have been lost when the Dublin archives burned in 1989). She went on to be a respected SAVE envoy and Unknown scholar, and a Master of the Art.[1]
